Obama To Address the Nation through Facebook

admin, April 7, 2011September 16, 2011

President Barack Obama rallied the youth of America in 2008 with his courageous speeches, inspiring messages, and the symbolism of “Hope” he portrayed for a better America. It was no doubt that thanks to the youth vote Obama had a solid election that helped him win the Presidency. Regardless of how he has done so far, or how well his accomplishments are perceived by the general public, he is back again to win that same vote, and is using social media as his catalyst.

Erin Lindsay announced yesterday, on the official White House Blog, that president Obama will be holding a town hall meeting April 20 2011 at 1:45 PDT. However, the kicker is that it will not really be held in any town hall. Instead Obama is flying to California to meet with Mark Zuckerberg, founder and CEO of Facebook, and Sheryl Sandberg, chief operating officer, to address the nation live through Facebook. Anyone who is a member of Facebook can log into their account and ask a question of the president. A small number of questions will then be selected for the president to answer live.

It is clear that while Obama is still trying to take care of the deficit, the economy, the wars, and everything else on his plate, he is still thinking ahead to keep his presidency in 2012. With the youth vote being the main drive behind his previous electoral success, he is looking to catch that same wind again. Republicans, on the other hand, are not so sure he will be able to capture the youth vote twice. They see his promises as being unfulfilled, and are instead predicting that they will be able to win vote this time. Regardless of who wins this next upcoming election for 2012 it is clear, as it was in 2008, that candidates are fighting for the youth vote of America, and that social media is now playing an even bigger role within it.
