Twitter has reached a new milestone, according to PC Magazine. Web analytics firm Pingdom has said that the social media site now has more than two million “tweets” each month from its worldwide user base. That’s double the number reported in December 2009, showing remarkable growth for Twitter in just the past six months.
However, Pingdom is considering scaling back its earlier prediction that Twitter would reach an average of six million updates each month by the end of the year.
“Maybe Twitter won’t quite be able to reach the almost 6 billion tweets per month we’ve predicted for the end of the year, but it’s clear that the Twitter platform is still growing at a healthy pace,” the firm said in a blog post. “Close to doubling the volume of monthly tweets in the last six months is no small feat.”
The current Twitter site usage stats are very impressive. The number of tweets on the site works out to an average of 64 million per day, 2.7 million per hour, 44,481 per minute and 741 per second.
