Making a Wikipedia page can often be very challenging. Even very notable companies or people can get their submissions declined for various reasons.
You need to be aware of all the requirements before creating a Wikipedia page. It is always best to hire a professional wiki editor or a company like ours to get the job done, since if you do it yourself, chances are that you are not going to know all the guidelines and get declined. In this article, we are going to give you some of the guidelines so you can understand the whole process better.
Significant News Coverage is Needed
The first and biggest requirement for a Wikipedia page is having significant news coverage, and the news articles need to be from credible sources. If you paid for PR or bought an article, most likely, the Wiki admins would know that since most sites that sell PR articles are well-known.
Primary Sources Won’t Work
Also, the articles have to be from neutral sources and not related to you. They can’t be from your own site, your own press releases, etc. If are partnered with an entity that wrote about you, it also won’t work. If you are a university alumina or teacher and your university wrote an article about you, it also won’t work. The bottom line is if there is any association between you and the entity that you wrote about you, then it would be considered a primary source and would not work.
Moreover, interviews are usually out of the question, because presumably the information you are imparting is coming straight from you and has not been vetted by a journalist.
Check Wikipedia’s General Notability Guidelines for more details.
Certain Professions have Specific Qualification Guidelines
There are some additional guidelines for some professions, which can help you get accepted even if you don’t have significant press coverage. For instance, musicians with a top 100 hit single in any country may qualify or a university chair may qualify. Some academics with many citations but little press may also qualify. Actors may qualify if they’ve had at least a few leading roles on film or TV.
The Submission Process
Articles For Creation Method
Once you think you have met the notability guidelines, you could just go to Wikipedia Article Wizard and follow the steps to submit your page. Still, the coding may also be a bit tricky, so you may need to read some instructions or even watch some YouTube tutorials to learn. However, be aware that you are submitting your own page or someone associated to you, you will need to follow the instructions and disclose it. The instructions in the article wizard would walk you through the guidelines for this.
You’ll also want to ensure that the page is not promotional in nature and that all sentences have a proper citation. Finally, you are going to have to be aware that there is usually a long wait to get reviewed. As of writing this article, the current wait could be as long as 2 months. In early 2021, the wait was as long as 6 months.
Direct Submission Method
There is another way to submit a page if you don’t have a conflict of interest with the subject. This method is best done if you are a professional with some prior editing experience. It is not for beginners. In fact your account needs to be at least 3 days old and have at least 1o edits to be able to use this method. With this method you can create the page and make it go live right away. There won’t be any waiting period for a review. But the page might be reviewed in the first 5-10 days of the posting and its status changed to deleted, nominated for deletion, or placed into the drafts. Again, be aware that you cannot use his method if you have any association with the subject, but you can make pages for subjects that you like and have no association with.
